Ma e' mancato Lew Soloff? Wikipedia mette la data di nascita e subito dopo la data 8/3/2015 . Non ho trovato niente in rete (per ora). Sarebbe una grandissima perdita di un altro grande. :'(

When I first moved to NYC in 1994, Lew invited me to come up to his home in Westchester County to, you know, hang and play trumpet. He showed me his gold plated, medium bore, 1929 NY Bach trumpet which he was VERY proud of. He wanted to hear me play it. So, I start trying to play it and the valves were kinda hanging up on me. So I asked if he had any oil. He gave me a bottle of valve oil and I unscrewed the top valve caps to pull out the valves in order to apply the oil (that's how I do it. I like applying the oil directly on the valve as opposed to simply squirting it into the hole of the bottom cap like some people do). Well, I pull the valves half-way up, and MAN...the ports were just FILLED with green slime. Geez! I said to Lew, "Lew, how often do you clean your horn?" He said, "Oh, whenever I get a moment." Remember now, this was the personal trumpet of one of the greatest players in the world! I quickly realized that I needed to choose my words carefully here...I said, "Well Lew, I think it's been awhile...before I continue trying to play your (rare) gold plated, medium bore, 1929, NY Bach, how about you let me rinse your horn out for you?" He said, "Really? Let me see." He looked at the valves and started laughing! He said, "Well, yeah, I suppose they're a little dirty." I got Lew to FIND his snake, mouthpiece brush, slide grease and a few rags. I then proceeded to spend the next hour giving Lew Soloff's trumpet a COMPLETE cleaning, oiling and lube. Afterwards, I warned him that his horn MAY feel "a little bigger" when he played it next. We then spent the rest of the day playing, eating and exchanging stories. I'll never forget that experience. He was such a gentleman with me. I'm missing him...
mi è capitato di incontrare Lew varie volte negli ultimi anni, di fare un paio di note insieme e di prestargli il mio strumento per un concerto...era una persona di una gentilezza e modestia incredibili, veniva da te a chiederti come aveva suonato
un grande, sotto tanti aspetti

A seguito di un post di Confusion51 mi sono visto qualche video di questo artista che conoscevo poco. ( mia grandissima colpa ), e attratto dal brano che già conoscevo :" Georgia on my mind " me lo sono andato a vedere. ( più che altro perchè è un brano che ho sentito suonare dal vivo da Ray Charles al teatro Petruzzelli di Bari e da allora questo brano è rimasto per me il banco di prova per ascoltare ( misurare) di ogni artista la capacità di interpretazione (vorrei dire un termine che mi pare bruttissimo e che non dirò, e che però io interpreto in maniera estremamente positiva, come quella capacità che spesso hanno solo certi musicisti neri di interpretare dei brani con certe note blues, certi fraseggi, certi staccati , certe pause che ti danno tutto il senso del brano. Sono brani " Densi " ......... che arrivano, a graffiarti , anche con la dolcezza e l'asprezza dell'esecuzione .
Lew Soloff , pur essendo bianco, in questo brano riesce in ciò.
