I was able to locate the trumpet forum and used Google translator to figure out what it meant! :-) I have some more useful information to share... I built the French horn first, this was when I first was figuring out how to make rounded wooden tubes. The wall thickness was pretty thick, and at the time I had no idea as to how important the inner bore was to the sound. I just built the instrument so that the outside dimensions were accurate. It ended up making sounds, but I kind of refrain from playing it because it sounded so bad. But it at least showed me that it was possible. On the trombone, I started making the inner bore a little more accurate. The bell section was the correct bore, and it sounded great, but once I made the slides, the inner bore ended up being smaller in that section, so the playability suffered. At this point I realized how important the bore was and made sure the bore of the trumpet was perfectly accurate. The valves definitely do work, I refrained from exercising them in the video because I had a carving competition that weekend I was entering it in, and wouldn't have time to do any repairs if anything went wrong. Since the show ended, I have been playing it and using the valves.
With what I know now with building 3, I want to go back and build the french horn and the trombone again so they sound better. I imagine that after 3 more instruments, I will be dramatically better again. There is no-one to ask for help on these, so I am going on intuition and what-ever I can learn from research on the internet on how real ones generate sound and what factors effect the sound.
I'm pretty confident that this trumpet will remain quite playable for a long time, all though the reality is that it is not as robust as one of brass. It's more of a museum quality playable showpiece that could be used for the occasional recording. If anyone is really interested in buying one, I could build a custom one for $6800 US Dollars. I built this one in 3 weeks, which part of that time was engineering the springs; the next one will go much quicker.
